      <image:title>Physiothearpy - Mechanical Traction / Spinal Decompression</image:title>
<image:caption>Mechanical traction or spinal decompression is the application of a pulling force to the spine by a traction machine. It is applied to the low back or neck and separates the vertebrae and spinal structures, unloading discs and joints and improving pain-free range of motion. Mechanical traction has been an important treatment technique at Cabot Physiotherapy for many years. Mechanical traction is very effective in helping to deal with the pain and dysfunction associated with: Disc injuries (bulge, herniation) Degenerative disc disease Pinched nerves Referred pain (“sciatica”) Spinal osteoarthritis Spinal osteophytes Spinal stenosi</image:caption>

      <image:title>Physiothearpy - IMS/Dry Needling</image:title>
<image:caption>Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) or Dry Needling is a type of therapy that involves the insertion of fine needles into tight bands within muscles. The result is a release of the tight band or “trigger point.” If you have ever experienced a muscle knot, you will know exactly what we are talking about. A muscle knot, also called a trigger point, can be released through dry needling. The needles are solid and do not deliver any solution – this is why it is known as a “dry needling” technique. The tight bands within the muscles are responsible for shortening and compression across the joints causing pain, inflammation and restriction. If you are having myofascial pain or pain that is affecting your muscles, ask our physiotherapists about dry needling.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Physiothearpy - Manual Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Manual Therapy has long been the mainstay of Physiotherapy at our clinic. As ‘manual’ implies, manual therapy is the “hands-on” treatment techniques aimed at mobilizing restricted joints and tissues, decreasing swelling and reducing muscle tone, permitting the restoration of normal movement. All our therapists at Cabot Physio pride themselves on their “hands-on” approach to treatment. In fact, manual therapy is one of the key pieces in physiotherapy.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Physiothearpy - Shockwave Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Shockwave is a non-invasive treatment technique that involves the production of acoustic shockwaves to treat chronic, painful conditions of the musculoskeletal system. It stimulates the healing process resulting in an immediate reduction of pain and improved ease of movement. Studies show that shockwave therapy is highly effective and completely safe when used for the appropriate conditions, leaving no negative health effects. Some conditions commonly treated with shockwave therapy include: Plantar Fasciitis Patellar tendinitis Lateral epicondylitis Medial epicondylitis Shoulder tendinitis Chronic inflammation Bursitis Shin splints Morton’s neuroma Stress fractures Osteoarthritis Muscle trigger points</image:caption>

      <image:title>Physiothearpy - Laser Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Laser therapy is a non-invasive, pain-free therapy that applies concentrated wavelengths of light through the skin to the deeper tissues of the body, including muscles, tendons, nerves, ligaments and joints. As this light reaches the damaged tissue it stimulates a number of intracellular and metabolic processes which act to reduce pain and accelerate tissue healing. At Cabot Physiotherapy we use a Theralase class III medical laser which is the gold standard in laser therapy. Key effects of Laser Therapy include: Increased collagen production Increased muscle regeneration Reduced Inflammation and Edema Facilitated nerve regeneration Accelerated bone remodelling/bone repair Conditions commonly treated with LASER include: Back and neck pain Sprains and strains Tennis/Golfer’s Elbow Plantar Fasciitis Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Arthritis Bursitis Whiplash Tendonitis</image:caption>

      <image:title>Physiothearpy - Ultrasound Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Therapeutic Ultrasound is a modality that utilizes the transmission of ultrasonic waves into tissues to create a therapeutic effect. Ultrasound is applied using the head of an ultrasound probe that is placed in direct contact with your skin via a transmission coupling gel. Therapeutic ultrasound has been shown to cause increases in: Healing rates Tissue relaxation Tissue heating Local blood flow Scar tissue breakdown Consequently, these effects help improve healing outcomes and reduce pain. In other words, you feel better!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Physiothearpy - Interferential Current Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Interferential Current Therapy (IFC) is an effective therapy option used by many physiotherapy clinics to relieve pain, inflammation, cure edema and spasms. The high-frequency signals of IFC penetrate through the skin into deeper lying muscle tissues which stimulates nerves and begins the healing process. Frequencies produced by the IFC have been proven to stimulate endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers. In turn, this helps reduce pain and improve healing mechanisms within the body.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Exercise and movement is further a critical part of physiotherapy and how it works. Through proper stretching and strengthening exercises prescribed by your physiotherapist, you can provide support and stability to the affected area. In turn, this helps prevent recurring injury, as well as decreases pain or compensating efforts by other structures or muscles.</image:caption>
