Alana Coady

Alana graduated from Dalhousie’s School of Physiotherapy program in 2006. After graduation, Alana returned home to Cape Breton to begin her career as a physiotherapist. After a short stint in orthopedic care, she moved to the hospital setting for several years where she gained experience working in the medical-surgical unit.

Over the past 7 years, Alana has developed a keen interest in pelvic floor rehabilitation. She attended her first pelvic floor course with the American Physical Therapy Association, in 2015, where she was trained to treat urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. Within a few months, Alana realized that there were many more issues affecting the pelvic floor and therefore continued to expand her knowledge with courses related to pelvic pain conditions. These include pain with urination, constipation, pain with intercourse, painful periods, bladder pain/endometriosis, and pelvic girdle pain during and beyond pregnancy. Alana’s journey in pelvic health continues to evolve into more pain science education, taking numerous courses on persistent pain assessment and treatment. Alana strives to work with a less biomedical approach, using a more holistic or biopsychosocial model of care.

“I like treatment plans to be patient-centered/guided. When I sit down with a patient for the first time, I want to gather as much information about them as possible so I can get a snapshot of their day. My goal is to guide my patients with education and movement so as to reduce their discomfort and improve their quality of life.”
