Melissa McDonough-Howley

Melissa is a Cape Bretoner, growing up in Glace Bay. She attended Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS where she obtained her BSc in Kinesiology and BSc in Physiotherapy degrees. Graduating from Dalhousie in 2006, Melissa began her career as a Physiotherapist in Yarmouth, NS.

Melissa returned to Cape Breton in 2007 where she has worked as a Physiotherapist in a variety of settings including private practice, hospital, and rehabilitation facilities.

Melissa has a keen interest in the fields of Pelvic Health and Neuro-Physiotherapy. In order to provide optimal patient care, she has taken many post-graduate courses including:

Pelvic Health: Incontinence and pelvic pain training with Uro-Sante; Perinatal Physiotherapy training with Uro-Sante; Physiotherapy management of c-section with Uro-Sante; Biopsychosocial Approach with Pelvic Health Solutions and more.

Other: Biomedical Dry Needling; Acupuncture (Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute), Neuro-developmental Therapy (NDT), Advanced Manual Therapy, Shirley Sahrmann Movement Impairment Disorders, Advanced Treatment of Runners, Kinesiotaping and more.

Melissa is co-owner of Cabot Physiotherapy in Sydney River, NS. Together, with her husband Brian, they are proud to provide optimal Physiotherapy care to their home community.

In addition to her professional life, Melissa’s priority is spending time with her family- Brian, and their two beautiful children, Evan and Kate. Melissa is an avid runner, passionate about health and wellness, and enjoys spending time outdoors with her family.
